What is United Cerebral Palsy of Michigan?
United Cerebral Palsy of Michigan is a non-profit advocacy organization that works for the productivity, independence and full citizenship of people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities.

What does UCP Michigan do?
UCP Michigan believes that every person with a disability has a right to be a full member of his or her community. UCP Michigan knows that people with disabilities and their families will have to work hard to get the services they need, and that parents of children with cerebral palsy need information and support as they search for answers and services. UCP wants to be there for parents of children with cerebral palsy and for people with disabilities when they need information about their rights and about how to go about getting the services and equipment they need.

Who will UCP Michigan help?
UCP Michigan has a great deal of knowledge about cerebral palsy and about the rights of and services available to people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. Anyone with cerebral palsy or another disability can call UCP for assistance. People with cerebral palsy and other disabilities often need information, advice and referrals to agencies that provide services and supports to people with disabilities.

UCP provides:

  • Up-to-date information about the latest research on the causes and treatment of cerebral palsy
  • Strategies for independence of people with cerebral palsy
  • Information about housing, special education, employment, technology and equipment, public benefits, and many other subjects
  • Information about laws and other government actions on disability issues names and numbers of where to go for services

Written materials:
UCP finds the latest articles, books and research about cerebral palsy and the rights of people with disabilities and makes them available to people who want them. We also publish a quarterly newsletter for people interested in cerebral palsy and the rights of people with disabilities.

Speakers:
UCP's experienced trainers can speak in your town about cerebral palsy, disabilities or disability rights, and services available for people with disabilities. If you want a speaker, call.

Research:
UCP Michigan contributes to the national UCP organization, whose Research Foundation researches the causes and treatments of cerebral palsy and related topics.

Government Advocacy:
UCP Michigan works with the Michigan Legislature and state government to make sure new laws and policies incorporate the needs of people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities.
